Top Restaurants in Lilongwe Right Now (2026)
The Lilongwe restaurants we actually return to in 2026 — for date night, working lunches, family dinners, and the late-night delivery emergency.
Published May 30, 2026
Restaurant rankings are personal. This one is too — but it's built around four working categories anyone who lives in Lilongwe knows by heart: where you take a date, where you take a meeting, where you take the kids, and where you order from at 9pm when the fridge is empty. Here's where we end up.
Date night
Three places hit the sweet spot of quiet enough to talk, busy enough to feel alive, and food that justifies the bill.
Wood & Stone (Old Town)
Wood-fired pizza in a converted house with garden seating. The wine list is small but well-chosen. Book the table by the bougainvillea.
Buchanan's Grill (Capital Hill)
Old-school grill house, dim lighting, good steaks, even better cocktails. Predictable in a comforting way.
The Pavilion at Latitude 13
Pricier; you're paying for the room. The Sunday brunch is the sleeper hit if you can get a 10:30am reservation.
Working lunches
Fast service, food that doesn't put you to sleep, and a check that arrives when you ask for it.
- Sana Food Court (Area 13). Pick your dish, sit down, eat, leave in 35 minutes. The chicken with rice plates are the move.
- Café Mandala (Old Town). Salads, sandwiches, decent coffee. Wi-Fi works.
- Korea Garden (Crossroads). Surprisingly fast for Korean. The lunch bibimbap is plenty.
Working lunches are about the second visit, not the first. Where do you go back to without thinking?
Family dinners
Spacious, kid-friendly, menus that satisfy both the seven-year-old with the chicken fixation and the adult who wants something more interesting:
- Steers Crossroads. Burgers the kids will eat, ribs the adults won't regret, ice cream for the bribe at the end.
- Havemore Restaurant. Chinese mains big enough to share, lazy-Susan setup makes it easy.
- Flavatos. Pizza by the metre. Order half margherita, half whatever. Everyone wins.
Late-night delivery
Few kitchens in Lilongwe stay open past 10pm — but the ones that do save the night.
- Steers (Crossroads). Open late. Reliable. The go-to.
- Coco's at KOA. Open late on weekends. Burgers + wings + cold beer = the late-night order trifecta.

Neighbourhood favourites
Area 47
Madyo Originalsfor the Malawian comfort food plates. Properly seasoned nsima & relish without the tourist markup.
Area 49
Ergo House of Flavors — small kitchen, big flavours, family-friendly. The chambo on Friday is worth the drive.
City Centre
Fat Cat Cafe for breakfast. Pizza Inn for a no-brainer mid-week dinner.
All deliver via Madyo
Every restaurant on this list is currently — or will shortly be — live on Madyo. We deliberately don't onboard kitchens we wouldn't eat at ourselves; if a place isn't in our catalogue, it usually didn't make the bar.
